The Will of Christina ARDIS

[NOTE: Christina [ZINN] ARDIS died 1785 May 6. Her Will was probated in 1795 July. It is transcribed below.]

 Will of Christina ARDIS in the name of God Amen. I Christina ARDIS of the District of Ninety Six in the State of South Carolina, Widow, being very sick and weak in this body. But of perfect mind and memory. Thanks be given unto God, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament.

 That is to say princiably and first of all I give and recompound my soul into the hand of the almighty that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the decretion of my Executors hereafter named. Nothing doubting but at the general resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty powers of God, and ________ such ________ estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and forum.

First I give and bequeath my dutiful son Daniel ARDIS as much money as will purchase a likely young Negro to be paid out of my estate by my executors after my decease. Also I give and bequeath my dutiful and well beloved sons Isaac ARDIS, Jacob ARDIS, Abraham ARDIS, Daniel ARDIS and David ARDIS all and singular my goods and chattel such as household goods, stocks of all kinds and plantation tools and utensils. Debts due and demands of whatever or whatever name and everyother thing that I own to be equally divided between them. After the above legacy of the price of one Negro is first paid to the afore mentioned Daniel ARDIS and I likewise constitute make and ardain my sons Isaac and Jacob ARDIS to be the sole executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby ______ disallow revoke and dismantle all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequeaths, and executors by me in any wise before named will and bequeath ratify and confirming this and no others to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have here set my hand seal this seventieth day of October in this year of our Lord 1783, signed, sealed, published pronounced and declared by the said Christina ARDIS in her last will and testament in the presents of us who in her presence and the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our name.
